About our Gastro Pub and Restaurant

Since opening in summer of 2014 The Tickled Trout’s reputation has grown and is regarded as one of the best places to eat in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The Tickled Trout pub is proudly independent, owned by Chris Mapp and nestled in the idyllic Derbyshire village of Barlow which is also close to Sheffield. Having worked away in London and Cornwall, Chris returned home and fate had it that his old local pub was for sale. Chris and his team have worked tirelessly to transform this run-down country drinking hole into a stunning dining restaurant pub that the village can feel proud of. Chris and his dedicated team believe in using great fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers they know and trust... and they know you'll taste the difference. We would say it great pub food but executed really well.

The Tickled Trout is open to everyone, so whether you want to enjoy a delicious meal from the gastropub menu, the restaurant specials or quiet pint of local ale or a glass of fine wine, you'll always be welcome in our pub. The Tickled Trout is a stone’s throw from the Peak District so is ideal for walkers, cyclists and naturalists alike. Keep an eye on the events with local gin makers, brewers, food beer and wine matching. We also host a Wednesday evening quiz, everyone is welcome. Sunday lunch menu consists of slow roasted sirloin and is very popular. The Ticked Trout has two luxury four star gold country self-catering holiday cottages, The Little Trout & Wellside, so you can also stay for a short break and enjoy the Peak District, Derbyshire Dales and South Yorkshire. We do advise you book to avoid disappointment as we can be quite busy.
